Report: Rose away from Knicks due to family situation

The New York Knicks finally managed to make contact with Derrick Rose, who was mysteriously absent from Monday’s loss against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Rose did not have permission to miss the game, but has since been in touch with team officials, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. Rose told the team he is dealing with a family situation.

Shelburne’s report comes on the heels of speculation that Rose was headed back to his hometown of Chicago.

The Knicks had been unable to reach Rose, who failed to show up for Monday’s game despite being listed as the starter and attending morning shootaround.

Knicks center Joakim Noah, a longtime friend of Rose dating back to their years with the Chicago Bulls, was the first to establish contact through a phone call. He confirmed that Rose was “OK” after Monday’s game, but did not elaborate as to what else was said.
